For most of the United States the familiar phrase "April showers bring May flowers" holds true, but not for Las Vegas. Instead, the month of May brings the World Series of Poker® to Las Vegas, without the showers.

The World Series of Poker® kicked off its long list of events starting May 30th, including the World Championship Pot-Limit Hold’em event. All-in-all there will be over fifty events throughout the series with games like Omaha, Stud, Pot Limit Hold’em, and even poker’s own version of H.O.R.S.E.

The World Championship No Limit Texas Hold’em, or the “main event” as most refer to it, will be the closing event of the series. This year’s main event begins July 3rd and is sure to be bigger than last year’s; more entries are expected and the event will start off with four playing groups to dwindle down their numbers.

Last year, Jerry Yang took home first place along with $8,250,000. Expect Yang to hit some tough competition again with the likes of Phil Helmuth, Allen Cunningham, Greg Raymer, Scotty Nguyen, and many more vying for the coveted bracelet.

The final table of 9 players play in November, a change from last year's format. The WSOP®, ESPN, and the WSOP Players Advisory Council made the change to help promote the poker world and to bring more fans to the game.

The final World Championship is played over 9 days; the last two days are November 9th and 10th. All events on the WSOP® will be held at the Rio All Suites and Hotel in Las Vegas. Most of the events will be televised by ESPN, the first one airing on Tuesday, July 22nd. Starting then, fans will be able to watch poker every Tuesday night until the Final Table airing November 11th.
